A Banksy mural recently sold on eBay for a whopping $407,000, after a total of 69 bids were placed on the painting that currently adorns a wall in west London.
According to the BBC, “Bobby Read, art expert at specialist insurer Hiscox, said: ‘Banksy is a maverick as well as a hugely talented artist. It's an intoxicating combination for buyers as this price shows.’ The posting explained: ‘One might guess that he would come in the middle of the night but instead he got some people to put a massive scaffolding in on a Sunday morning with Portobello Market at full swing.’”
The vendor estimates that the cost of removing the painting could be close to $10,000, which would have to be paid by the buyer. Looks like outsider art is moving up in the world and we couldn’t be happier! Read the whole BBC article here.

no doubt a genius piece of art but i don't know quite what to think about street art being auctioned (for tons of none none the less). i guess outsiders are ushering in the post post modern and counter counter culture.

counter-counter-culture??? I can't decide if that's ultra post-modern, or just plain depressing...all i can say is, lucky Banksy.
