Rachael Ray Asks Battles, Holy Fuck to Play SXSW Party

Holy Fuck indeed

When we saw this on Idolator, we were like, no fucking way. Yes, we already knew foodie superstar Rachael Ray is an indie rock fan-- she put twee group the Boy Least Likely To (along with Nellie McKay and Puffy Amiyumi) on her Too Cool for School Mixtape for Kids back in the fall of 2006.

But there's a big difference between the Boy Least Likely To's gentle coos and the abrasive instrumental art rock purveyed by Battles and Holy Fuck. I mean, if you try cooking to this stuff, you might end up with a whole arm chopped up in a blender.

Regardless, we've just received confirmation that yes, Rachael Ray did indeed invite Battles to perform at her SXSW party. And Holy Fuck too! (Can you even say that word on the Food Network?) Alas, Battles won't be participating-- they aren't doing SXSW at all this year. No word yet on Holy Fuck.

According to this Earl Boykins post, Rachael's party is called "FEEDBACK Showcase...a feast of hot bands and tasty foods" and is taking place Saturday, March 15 from 12pm to 6 pm (rumor has it that it will take place at Beauty Bar).

We're sure of one thing though: no matter which bands play, this party is going to have the best catering table at SXSW.

i just thought this was funny . . . and rachael rayis sort of odd, so i thought i'd share it with you . . .

" . . . Cardinal (1972) and MacGregor (1989) continued to advance the Art Brut aesthetic, which in its purest form calls for the virtual abolition of the ego in art expression. (Hence, the most autistically isolated image maker might be deemed aesthetically superior to one influenced by peers, family or culture.) Furthermore, some aestiticians decry the use of arttherapy as an auxiliary ego function, because it is feared that, in it's quest for healthy functioning, purity and intensity of the artistic image may be diluted, perverted or lost. "

good thing autism is oh so prevalent in our society--the history books will say that we had the purest artistic expression . . . although, tragically, we all died out so soon as we could not interact within society . . .

do you think that communication or relationship are necessary components of a piece of art? (semi-vague, i know, i'm not defining communication or relationship on purpose)

i need to stop being distracted and finish my thesis.

i know, right?

if we lived closer, you could come to all these cool downtown places on this design guide: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2008/01/detroit-design-guide.html

...sigh. Damn the miles between us!
ugh--why don't we live closer. how can i go to an art show-thing about graffiti without my faux graffiti counterpart (aka you) . . .

A.Okay Official in Chicago, in collaboration with dWebz Corporation, has an awesome event coming up February 15th titled A. Okay Loves CTA (Chicago Train Art.)
The event is showcasing artist created and designed DIY trains as well as actual O-Scale Model trains. Over fifty artists will splash their personal urban and graffiti art upon the trains in collaboration, or single handedly.
With live screen-printing by Radah, body painting by Mario from Mario Ink, and an after party at Spot 6, this looks like a great way to spend your post Valentine’s Day night!

Hope you liked the bit of "Shanti" there...sometimes I have to skim it, though, his Nobel-Prize genius can be a bit too thick for me!

I'm glad we talked, too. It was refreshing, like icy sparkling water on a hot day...
Speaking of, I'd love to be baking in the sun on some pure-white sand beach right now, how 'bout you? Enough of this crazy winter shit!

Oh, dear. I think I've found yet another pair of cute-fabulous-potentially perfect shoes! I need to stop shoe-shopping! I'm such and addict!!!

It snowed again today. Kind of nice weather for grading essays and doing a bit of writing. Today was one of those bitt-a cold days, the kind where you have to take a hot shower to get warm. I'm feeling quite spoiled by my MLK holiday, and I'm reluctant to jump in, feet first, to the rest of the week. Gosh, I sound like such a baby!

In other news, Jake has some artwork in an upcoming benefit show in A2. Wish you were here to be the belle of the ball with me. Would that make it belleS of the ball?

A Banksy mural recently sold on eBay for a whopping $407,000, after a total of 69 bids were placed on the painting that currently adorns a wall in west London.
According to the BBC, “Bobby Read, art expert at specialist insurer Hiscox, said: ‘Banksy is a maverick as well as a hugely talented artist. It's an intoxicating combination for buyers as this price shows.’ The posting explained: ‘One might guess that he would come in the middle of the night but instead he got some people to put a massive scaffolding in on a Sunday morning with Portobello Market at full swing.’”
The vendor estimates that the cost of removing the painting could be close to $10,000, which would have to be paid by the buyer. Looks like outsider art is moving up in the world and we couldn’t be happier! Read the whole BBC article here.

no doubt a genius piece of art but i don't know quite what to think about street art being auctioned (for tons of none none the less). i guess outsiders are ushering in the post post modern and counter counter culture.

which ones are best?

What do you think of these, friendly?

I know the top one's not as "teal", but I still kind of like it....thoughts?

happy friday

Ah, the weekend. I am so excited for a low-key couple of days! I came straight home after teaching today and took a NAP and watched some t.v. I'm looking forward to some nice saturday afternoon chilling out and grading papers....

...shopping with mom for the perfect confection to fete my nuptuals....

...realigning my spine and stretching my sickly-stiff muscles...

...working on your october thru december mixes...

...and layering on the cozy knits to stave off the bitter cold (I found this on indifixx.com~great site!)

cheers to a great weekend!

funny story

when the old dance peeps and i went out to dinner val was telling us the story about how she and her husband got married. they began to plan the wedding and went to meet with the photographers. as you know wedding photographers are a bit pricey but when val and mike heard how pricey they decided to elope. yes! just them, the judge and a friend in the livingroom.

the best part of the story is that val and mike are now wedding photographers! i'm pretty sure mike quit his regular job to be a photographer!

thought you would appreciate that . . .

the power of the uterus

I just love that our first post of the new year is what it is. That's just how we roll...

Right about now you are probably chillin' with your dance peeps, and I'm in my pj's, writing lesson plans and handouts, livin' the dream. My uterus is singing and dancing right now. It was all I could do not to down six ibuprofin with a giant glass of white wine...but I'm deliriously happy. Really.

It's so amazing to me the amount of thought and focus that I am capable of devoting to my body. What a weird relationship we have with these complex organic machines! I actually found myself apologizing to my body for stressing it out so much lately. It actually seemed gratified. (Do I sound like a crazy person, talking about my body in the third person? I really have felt divorced from it, like it was separate from "me"...huh.)

So, you are like, the best person in the world....for posting those panties! In the spirit of friendship, I will post another snapshot of yours:
