An excerpt from one of my all-time, favorite books, "Travelling Mercies", by Anne Lamott, wherein she talks about the stop on her spiritual journey called Judaism:
"I was taught some Hebrew scripture. I was told to memorize the recipe for Candle Salad, which was in a book called 'The Jewish Home Beautiful': on a leaf of lettuce, you put a ring of canned pineapple. Into its center, insert half a banana, vertically. Secure part of an orange slice with a toothpick to the ring of pineapple, so the banana shouldn't topple over, God forbid; and on top, for the flame, a maraschino cherry."
